Abraham Edwards was one of at least six children born to Robert and Priscila Edwards. Robert was a coal miner and was born in the Parish of Mynyddislwyn in 1863. Priscila was born in Cardiff in 1860.

in 1901 they were living at 30 Heol Fawr, Nelson where most of their children were born.

Catherine was born in 1882,
Alfred was born in 1884,
Emma was born in 1891,
Abraham was born in 1893,
Thomas was born in 1896, and,
Priscilla was born in 1898

Also living at the address at the time was Doris Maud Edwards, aged 3 years, listed as the grand-daughter of Robert.

In April/May/June of 1913, Abraham Edwards married Beatrice Mantle at Merthyr Tydfil.
Beatrice was one of six children herself. Her parents Septimus and Ruth Mantle lived at 18 Williams Terrace, Treharris. Septimus was born in 1856 while Ruth was born in 1857. Their children were:

Evan John, born in 1885,
Beatrice, born in 1894,
Gertrude, born in 1896,
Ceinwen, born in 1899, and,
Gwawrddydd was born in 1900.
