Nelson's Constribution to World War One

Elsewhere in this site are the details of Nelson men that fell in the First World War, as well as a list of men that had enlisted up until 1915, as published by The Express newspaper. During the course of research I have kept details of any Nelson soldiers named in newspaper entries or letters and have, below, completed a more comprehensive list of Nelson’s contribution to the First World War. This list also includes a small number of Nelson women. The list may not yet be complete !

In all, and to date, the lists show 384 names. To give an idea of the proportion of inhabitants, this number represents 13% of the total population of the village of Nelson by the 1911 census count.

In order to make viewing a little easier, I have separated the groups of names into sections per page. You can access each page by selecting the appropriate link in the left column.
